CO-FINANCED BY: NextGenerationEU - START 4.0
(CUP J37H24000280004)SAILOR is positioned within the “Logistics, Transport and Mobility” application domain with the main thematic areas concerning worker safety and risk analysis, evaluation and management. The technologies involved concern artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT sensors, cybersecurity and different Smart Track patents will be involved which will be made available to the SAILOR partnership. The project falls perfectly among the strategic objectives of the START 4.0 Competence Center as it allows the creation of a naval Digital Twin focused on worker safety 4.0, allowing the “Connected Worker” IoT platform to be scaled inside ships, already widely validated in industrial contexts relevant ones that have allowed to increase the technological maturity up to TRL 5.
The goals of the project are multiple and divided for each proposed subsystem, in particular:
- Man down and SOS detection system: IoT system composed of wearable devices, IoT sensors and SW applications capable of detecting the man down and voluntary SOS condition in real time with the relative position inside the ship: Man down and SOS detection system: IoT system composed of wearable devices, IoT sensors and SW applications capable of detecting the man down and voluntary SOS condition in real time with the relative position inside the ship
- Man overboard detection and localization system: uses latest generation IoT sensors installed in the perimeter of the vessel which exploit Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.2 Angle of Arrival (AoA) technology
- Automatic management of evacuations: evolve the existing system by developing a software bridge which, following an emergency event, communicates with an AI algorithm and obtains, in addition to the positions of people "in potentially dangerous situations", also the optimal route for reach the missing person and optimize escape routes
- IoT aggregation platform: help ensure correct configuration and management of the IoT devices used and integrate cyber security by implementing identification mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access
- Total project cost: 739.463,00 Euro

Smart Track’s role
As part of the SAILOR project, Smart Track is the leader and will have the task of developing the man down and SOS detection system, the man overboard detection system and the automatic management of evacuations by exploiting its skills on the latest IoT devices generation. Finally, it will have the task of developing the IoT data aggregation platform.
The system designed and developed thanks to SAILOR will allow Smart Track to scale its “Connected Worker” IoT platform inside ships, already widely validated in relevant industrial contexts which have allowed it to increase technological maturity up to TRL 5.
